The entertainment industry is mourning the untimely passing of actress and model Shefali Jariwala, best known for her iconic song 'Kaanta Laga'. She was 42. In a resurfaced interview, Shefali had openly discussed her health challenges and the impact they had on her career choices.
Speaking to Etimes, Shefali revealed that she had been diagnosed with epilepsy as a teenager. She recounted the onset of the condition, stating, "I had an epilepsy seizure at the age of 15. I remember at that time I was under tremendous pressure to do well in my studies. Stress and anxiety can lead to seizures. It’s interrelated, you could get a seizure due to depression and vice versa."
Shefali further shared the impact of epilepsy on her self-confidence. “I have got seizures in classrooms, backstage, while on roads, and somewhere that lowered my self-esteem," she explained.
The immense success of 'Kaanta Laga' catapulted Shefali Jariwala to instant fame. Her distinctive style and captivating dance moves made her a national sensation.
Many were curious as to why she didn't pursue more projects in film and television following her initial success. In the same interview, Shefali clarified, “After I did Kaanta Laga, people asked me why I didn’t do more work. I can now say that it was because of the epilepsy seizures that I couldn’t take up much work. I didn’t know when I would get my next seizure… this went on for 15 years."
Despite battling epilepsy for a decade and a half, Shefali expressed pride in her resilience and recovery. “I am proud of myself because I managed my depression, panic attacks and anxiety naturally and with the help of a strong support system," she affirmed.
Shefali Jariwala passed away on Thursday, reportedly from a cardiac arrest. While official confirmation is pending, reports indicate she was taken to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her body was then transferred to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination. As the industry mourns, fans and colleagues continue to express their grief and disbelief on social media, remembering the vibrant star.
